One Heart Sound
‘A generation reaching their generation for Jesus’
One Heart Sound represents a network of youth groups and youth organisations from across the borough of Dudley. Working within the framework of the Love Dudley Network this group has a vision and plan to impact a generation of young people in Dudley and beyond.
Following on from the Higher Tour of 2018, where we worked in partnership with The Message Trust a group of leaders agreed to continue to meet with the intention of listening to God, working together and pursuing transformation specifically among young people.
There was a common sense that 2020 could and should be a year that galvanizes us towards concerted and concentrated missional engagement. After several meetings and a 24 hour retreat where we sought to answer several questions around identify, scope, target and approach the following focus was agreed;
- Our primary geographic focus is within the Dudley borough but our hands and hearts are open to share, network and learn from the wider Black Country and beyond.
- Our primary focus in terms of who we are trying to reach is young people (11-18) but we acknowledge the importance of children and young adults.
- Our intention would be to see ‘One Heart Sound’ positioned as part of the Love Dudley Network whist maintaining a relational connection to the Love Black Country Network.
Key actions for 2019
1: Mobilising people to pray
The WHY – The biblical pattern is to first pray and then act. The great social reformer of the Old Testament Nehemiah first prayed before he presented the people’s needs before the seat of power and influence.
The WHAT – The First Monday of every month, a call to fast and pray for youth/children across the borough. We are suppling simple resources such as stats, stories, scriptures and prayer pointers
Three times per year we will arrange a prayer gathering:
The dates are;March 4/June 3/Sept 2
2. Equipping churches to disciple
The WHY – Churches need to be prepared and ready to welcome, embrace, disciple and empower the next generations. We will also explore growing the numbers of youth and children’s workers.
The WHAT– Creating a Learning Community. Each church that signs up is invited to send a few key leaders including team leaders, youth & kids leaders, Key Volunteers, young people to the Learning Community programme.
Initially it will be just a few churches (those currently engaged) but the intention is to increase the number of churches in 2020
The dates are: March 15/16 – July 19-20 – October 4-5
3. Inspiring and equipping young people to reach their friends
The WHY– Our young people are the ones best placed to reach their generation. If we are to think longer term we need to invest in them so they can reach their friends
The WHAT– Youth conference A one day conference where young people will be inspired and equipped to get a vision for their generation, to see what God could do in and through them and to begin to cast vision for what 2020 could look like
Date: Saturday November 9th– Venue: Lifecentral, Halesowen
